Craft Time - No Mess Painting

Finger painting seems to be one of the only crafts Jake can do right now, but it's just so messy. Recently, I wanted to do something with Jake, but I didn't want to deal with the mess and fingers with paint going into the mouth. That's when I thought about putting the paints inside a plastic bag, hence, 'No Mess Painting'. See instructions below.

One: You'll need paper (I used white card stock), craft paint, painters tap, large ziplock bag, scissors, and a cute baby

Two: Insert paper into plastic bag. Put dots of paint on paper. Seal the bag, remove most of air. Tape bag to a table.

Three: Let baby have fun mashing paint around. Take some pictures!

Four: Remove baby. Remove painters tap.

Five: Cut the the bottom and side of the plastic bag to remove painting. Let dry.

Finally, make the painting into something or just leave it be. I turned Jake's painting into a Valentine. {You could also save the plastic bag and make something to put in the window.}

Jake really enjoyed it and I look forward to making some Easter eggs soon!

Our Evening

I've mentioned before that the Hubs and I do a special dinner-in for Valentine's Day instead of going out, and this year was no different. We did switch up the location, normally dinner is served at the kitchen table, but this year we had a cozy meal by the fire on the floor. It was a special evening spent with the most special person in my life!

Menu: Cheese Fondue with roasted broccoli & asparagus, rosemary bread, marinated steak and chicken, and cherry tomatoes (I went a little overboard). Dessert was S'mores with homemade beer marshmallows. It was all a great success ;-).

And what most of my reader's want to hear about...

Jake also had a nice Valentine's dinner. It was a first, spaghetti {and cottage cheese - not a first}! He wasn't a big fan, a think the noodles and neckedness jammed him up a little bit.

First Valentine

Jake received his first Valentine yesterday, isn't it so cute...

Jake and I hosted a little Valentine's party yesterday for a few of our good friends. It was so fun doing some little crafts with the boys. I'll post some more pictures next week because you can't see one of the crafts until Valentine's Day {a few special people will be getting something special in the mail}.

Got a little crafty yesterday and painted a onesie for Jake. He needed something to wear for Valentine's Day.

{I used my Silhouette machine to create a stencil and then just used some craft paint and a onesie I already had}

The hubs and I also need new stockings (love the look of the ones we have, but you can't put anything in them), so I didn't want to spend a lot on a stocking for Jake until I knew what I wanted to do for the whole family.

First Round of Christmas

We had our first round of Christmas this past weekend with the hubs' family. I think it was all a little overwhelming for Jake. He was a trooper though, he was mixed in the middle of his 5 cousins taring open gifts and it was his bed time. By the end he was a happy boy playing with his new big boy toys. I'm looking forward to round two with my family this weekend.

We had a great Saturday! First, Jake took a nice long morning nap, giving Mommy and Daddy some time to relax. Then, we took a family trip to the State Farmers Market to pick out a pumpkin. Lastly, we watch the Wolfpack win a game! I hope you all had a great Saturday.

The Nursery {Finally}

I finally got around to taking some pictures of the pretty much completed nursery. I say pretty much, because there are a few more items I want to hang on the walls and I know I will constantly change things around. This was definitely one of my favorite rooms in the house to decorate. Not only because it's my son's room, but kids rooms are just fun to design. I also loved that I was able to incorporate items from my childhood. Like the nursery rhyme needlepoints above the crib, my mom made them when she was pregnant with me. When I was little I received a music box for my birthday and I was also able to add some of those too. You'll see a Noah's Ark and a Peter Rabbit music boxes in a picture below. My mom made the crib skirt (instructions from here) and pillow, my husband built the cornice boards and I upholstered them. I hope you enjoy the pictures.

Six Months!

My sweet sweet baby boy turned six months on Friday, I can't believe he is half a year old! The past six months with him have been wonderful (and hard and tiring) and we really couldn't be happier! I can't wait to see what the next six months bring!

The Weekend

We had a nice weekend. Saturday we went to the NC State football game. Unfortunately, we ended up not going in to the game (or maybe that was good, it's been a rough year for the Wolfpack so far), but did enjoy tailgating before the game with great friends and family.

On Sunday I finally got the chance to make some baby food, carrots and sweet potatoes. It was really so easy. I bought baby food first because I wanted to be able to buy an assortment to find out what Jake liked and disliked. I didn't want to make a big batch of carrots and then Jake hate them. So far, sweet peas are the only thing he doesn't really care to eat. I have a few baby food cookbooks, but I think I'm really going to enjoy Tyler Florence's Fresh Start the best (and it doesn't hurt that he's one of my favorite chefs). The baby food recipes for when Jake's a little older look amazing. He also had a great tip for making those first pureed baby foods, use a blender and not the food processor. It made the food so much smoother. Oh, and did you know he is one of the founder's of the baby food brand Sprout, I didn't.

Five Months!

My sweet baby boy is five months old today! I really can't believe it, he's one month away from being half a year old! I'm truly enjoying ever moment, including the sleep fighting and beginning stages of teething. My baby is rolling around everywhere (tummy to back and back to tummy), he's sitting up for short spurts, eating rice cereal like a champ, smiling and giggling all the time, finally napping, and is just such a joy. A few of my favorite pictures from the past month...

We enjoyed a nice low country boil dinner on the porch last night. I so love that the evenings are finally getting cooler. After the extremely hot summer, I'm really looking forward to fall.

We had a nice dinner last night instead of tonight because we of course have to get ready for football tomorrow!

A Baby Shower

We helped host a baby shower for some very special friends over the weekend. It was such a special time celebrating with our friends on the upcoming arrival of their son!

As you can see from the photos, I had a blast making decorations. It was the first time I was really able to test what my Silhouette SD machine could do. All the decorations were also a result of searching the web while a nursed my little one. I made the banner, diaper wreath, painted onesies, and the monogram on the ice bucket (beach bucket).

Four Months!

I can't believe my little guy turned four months yesterday! It's amazing how he has developed from a newborn to a little baby over the last month. It seems like he is hitting new milestones everyday...smiling, giggling, rolling all over the place, grabbing items and putting them in his month, the list goes on and on. We're venturing on trying to hit another milestone this week...rice cereal! I really can't believe he's big enough to begin eating solid foods! I love this little guy so much!

A Long Weekend

Jake and I had a great long weekend at the beach with precious friends. This was also Jake's first trip to the beach, and I would say he loved it. I have been blessed with dear friends that I met in middle school and we still stay in touch. We've been adding sweet little boys over the last couple years, four to be exact and one due in September. The past weekend five of the seven girlfriends were able to go to the beach with our boys. It was so fun to see the little guys interact with each other. It was such a great and relaxing weekend...even with the craziness of the little guys! Can't wait to do it again next year!

Brookie got Married!

We had quite the adventurous weekend as we traveled to Charlotte to celebrate Brooke and Dustin. Brooke is a dear friend, a sorority sister, and my little. I couldn't be happier for them! I've included a few tid bits from the big day (sorry about the quality, all iPhone pics).

Oh, and Jake did great all weekend even though he got dragged around everywhere. Thank you Stacey, Alan, and Mom for all the extra help. Dan and I couldn't have made it through the weekend without you!

Can't believe it's the last day of March and hopefully very soon we'll be meeting our little guy! I'm so ready to see his little face! I thought it would be fitting to end the project with one last belly shot, it's gotten BIG!

Thanks for following along over the last month. I'm going to enjoy looking back over the photos in the future to see the little things in life we were doing before our son joined our little family.

I might not have mentioned, but after our house didn't sell and learning of the new addition to the family, we started on quite a few projects in the house to make it more livable. One of the projects was to turn our formal dining room into a den. We maybe used the room 3 times over the past 4 years and thought the space could be utilized much better. So, we embarked on selling the dining room set. Once that was sold, I needed a place to store all our formal china and serving pieces. My hubs created and built a wonderful storage solution for me, and last night I was finally able to unpack lots and lots of boxes that had been sitting in the corner of the room for months. Now we are finally getting to the point of being able to furnish the room! Took a few pictures of the madness from last night, so much packing paper!

I'm starting with a belly shot of me at 35 weeks and a smocked outfit my mom made for baby M. The outfit isn't from today, but I couldn't not share it. I was blessed with an amazing baby shower this weekend attended by my family and friends. The outfit was just one of many wonderful things we received. Dan and I were truly blessed!

A Couple Nursery Pictures

Ok, so I was finally able to upload a couple pictures of the nursery from our computer. The lighting wasn't great, but you should get an idea of what the space looks like. I'm working on a much larger post that has some before pics. I also still have some hanging and arranging to do before the nursery will truly be done. Valentine's Day Traditions

Do you have any Valentine's Day traditions? Growing up we always had a special dinner. My mom would decorate the table and get us some little valentine treats. The meal would also be something we didn't get all the time, like a good steak! My sisters and I always looked forward to this special dinner. My husband and I have continued this tradition. We didn't start continuing the tradition until after we got married, but we've done it every year since we've been married. We decorate the table and cook something we wouldn't normally cook. The last couple years we even switched it up a little more where one year I planned the menu and fixed everything and the next year it was his turn to do the same. We've enjoyed these special dinners and look forward to adding a family member to next years special dinner. I've include a couple pictures from the night. We kept it pretty low key this year on the food side, but it was still so yummy. We (really Dan because my back was killing me) made Penne a la Betsy via Pioneer Woman's cookbook. It was so yummy and so easy, definitely recommend trying. For dessert we made oreo milkshakes. I was going to make Pioneer Woman's Red Velvet Cake, but wasn't quite in the mood to bake. I think I'll try tackling that this weekend. So, what are some of your Valentine's Day traditions?

Target Find

So, I went to Target on my lunch break today to get a few things and ended up finding this outdoor pillow for $12.99. Yes, it's a copy of KWID Imperial Trellis, but I just can't get enough.

I got the navy and white, but they also had a brown and green trellis. I'm sure they will go fast, so you might want to go ahead and do some spring shopping!

I can't believe in 8 weeks (give or take) I'll be meeting our precious baby boy! It's amazing how quickly the time goes. It seems like you'll never get to the end, at the beginning, and then all of the sudden your like, the baby could be here any day.

Nursery Love

I really love this nursery Caitlin Wilson helped design. I think one of the main reasons I love it so much is that it reminds me of our little man's nursery. They are both very different nurseries, but both nursery share some similarities. Both have a color scheme of blues and greens. Both have the same Ikea dresser with colored knobs. Both have a lime green clock. Both have a blabla doll. Little man's nursery is still very much a work in progress, but it's getting there. This weekend we hope to finish putting the dresser together {we had a damaged piece in the box, so Ikea is sending us the new piece and it should arrive any day now}, and put some window treatments up. Then the weekend after that my mom is coming to town to make the crib skirt. We have completed painting, assembling the crib, and a few other small things. Hopefully, I'll have a few small tid-bits to share with you Monday.
